Weekday Zeitgeist Gender tshirt hastag by lily

We are living in the 20th century, where labels are still very important to society. Are you straight or are you gay and is there anything in between? Then again, does it really matter? Isn’t it about the person? Gender shouldn’t define us like it has historically. I never really thought about these questions until I was confronted with it and I am still learning about this subject. I just know, that it doesn’t matter who you are, as long as you have a good heart, I am down with you.

A few weeks ago a dear friend of mine, Jo, got married. I’ve known Jo for already 15 years now! When he was still a she. I can’t imagine how frustrated that must have been, growing up not able to be truly yourself. I have seen the transformation over the years and I am unbelievable proud and happy that he has found himself. Nowadays he is actively involved in educating people about the transgender matter together with his partners. If you are interested in this subject, please take a look at there community ‘Transketeers’ here.

I am not going to write a whole essay. I just wanted to raise some awareness around this subject when I got to pick a Zeitgeist campaign t-shirt from Weekday. I felt really drawn to this one and I am happy to share this with you.

I also chose to shoot this tee during Paris Fashion week. I was lucky enough that I found street photographer Christian Gertsen to help me out with these cool pictures! Finally, the outfit is a little bit extravagant to make the statement ;)
