It was such an honor that Aveda chose me to fly to The big apple, to witness New York Fashion Week with the brand. I don’t know the brand for too long, but I was using the natural (hair) products with great satisfaction for a while now. So I knew I would love to collaborate with an amazing brand as Aveda.
I had the chance to visit two shows backstage, from Tibi and Tome, from the last one I also saw the show. Fashion Week madness is for real. It’s such an inspiring time from so many different points of view.
Hereby I show you my first New York fashion week experience with Aveda in this article and in a video. Enjoy!
NYFW day 1
— CitizenM hotel —-
I arrived the night before, staying at CitizenM, right at Time Square. Unpacking the Fashion show stoppers is the first preparation to do. Find a separate review of this hotel –> here.
— Tibi backstage —
I have been backstage of shows before very briefly, but never for a report or for a big show like this. Hectic is the word to describe the backstage vibes, but also inspiring and fun.
I went backstage at the Tibi show with Aveda. Aveda was responsible for the hair of the show with Aveda’s artist Frank Rizzieri taking the lead. I got the chance to talk to him very briefly, what a lovely man he is. He created thick, healthy and face-framing hair for the TIBI AW2017 show, using Aveda’s Thickening Tonic & Damage Remedy (one of my faves).
When I asked him to describe the look in a few word he said: “Don’t mess with the hair of how the model came in too much“. I guess that makes sense with Aveda, keep it natural and healthy.

— Shopstyle Social House NYC —
After London and Paris, it was a pleasure to visit Shopstyle Social House in NYC too! The location was amazing. It was huge! And they gets 100 points for decorations!
Shopstyle Social House is a place influencers can go during fashion week. You can network, take pictures, borrow items etc.
— Spoke & Weal —
Lucky me. Between the Fashion Week madness I got spoiled with a color treatment in one of Aveda’s hair salons at Spoke & Weal Soho. Top professionals are working here. Madison colored my hair brighter and gave it more shine. I love how the color pops out now. Derrick did the finishing touch by blow drying my hair beautifully to sexy wavy hair.

— Tome backstage —
Due to transportation issues, I arrived quite late backstage at the Tome show. Luckily for me there were 2 models coming in late too, so I could catch them in action real quick. Mann.. These people are FAST backstage! I was watching the leading artist, Antoinette Beenders, styling the hair. In less than 5 minutes the team transformed the model Aveda hair show proof. That’s Amazing!
Antoinette honed in on natural hair textures to create an array of individual styles for the Tome AW2017 show. The show was about celebrating confident, strong woman. Aveda “Dry Remedy” was used to instantly add moisture and bring hair back to life. The sleek ponytails and curly styles were set with “Air control”.
— Tome show —
It was so cool to first see the preperations backstage and then see all the final results in the runway show where everything comes together. The collection, the hair, make up and the beats..
The theme Gorilla girls was created to celebrate all woman, no matter what age, ancestry or size.
— NYFW video —
And now the video! It’s a vlog about my time in NYC including Fashion week, hotspots, shoppings and a basketball game!
