ModaLisboa SS’21 Day 1

ModaLisboa Day1

As we speak, I am currently in Lisbon, reunited with the Modalisboa family. After so many cancellations of international fashion shows in the past few weeks, I was pleasantly surprised that Modalisboa found a way to keep the shows going. It’s definitely different this season, but not perse in a bad way. With all the measures taken into account, Modalisboa managed to organise this season completely outdoors in a stunning park in the city.

I will share this experience with you through these daily reports. After being “trapped” in The Netherlands for months, I can’t tell you how excited I am to be here and doing my job of creating content in my favorite European city. Now sit back and relax. This is our first day of Modalisboa SS21!

FLYING TO LISBON

Early morning alarm for my first flight since COVID hit. You know I don’t like to fly, but the idea to switch rainy depressing weather to sunny 25+ degrees, surely made it better.
We had to wear our face mask the entire time, except when having food. I bought the Uniqlo Airism face mask, which I highly recommend. It’s soft on the skin, I can still breath easily and it stays put when I talk.

After we dropped our bags at the hotel, we went straight to shows. By this time we only missed the opening show from the designer “Buzina”. I was a bit bummed out because the photos I’ve seen afterward were amazing!

Anyway, I was thrilled to be part of this outdoor fashion week. I love how creative Modalisboa is to realize beautiful sceneries for each show. Every time it was a big surprise again, which brings all the excitement and anticipation to see collections. I am sharing my favorite looks of the day here with you!

JOÃO MAGALHÃES

--- @joaomglhs ---

João Magalhães was the first show of the season, and it was a great start. The show started out with a performance by local Portuguese artist. His voice intertwined so beautifully with the flow of the show. Each model was full of color and excitement. With their faces painted, you can clearly see the influence of chaos and pastel. This collection definitely gave off a carefree feeling with as many colors as you like. Here are some of my favorite pieces.

“When we spend more time at home we turn ourselves inwards. Flowers were important to manipulate the energy of my space and inspired me to start painting again. I picked up old albums, films and books from my adolescence. When we can’t run outside for inspiration, when that is taken away from us, we return to our memories, which also bring us back to our emotions” - João Magalhães

NUNO BALBAZAR

I am so incredibly amazed by the models in this show. They managed to stay elegant and fierce while strutting down a runway in water - all while wearing high stilettos. This collection features an interesting combination of shadows from the flowing drapes and different texture combinations within each outfit. I felt this collection had a vintage vibe to it while portraying each model as a warrior-princess. Here are some of my favorite pieces

"Experimental combinations of turquoise, black, graphite, moss, raw white, luminous yellows, cinnamon, chocolate, cognac and fuchsia make up a palette without protagonists."

RICARDO PRETO

Preto's show was at a new location on top of a hill overlooking Lisbon. The collection is minimal - yet had striking pieces incorporated with a simplistic color palette. I particularly loved the statement rattan hats and fringe detailed belt bags. I can even see myself wearing some of these items myself. Here are some of my favorite looks.

"Ricardo Preto presents a collection that diving into the nostalgia of love, for the homeland and past times that revive happy memories, awakening the subtlety and unveiling of women, reinvigorating materials already used and favorite techniques (patchworks; prints; deconstructed tailoring; pajama looks and kaftans)."

DINNER at HONEST GREENS

After a long day of traveling and shows, we deserved a good healthy dinner. Modalisboa brought us to this delightful restaurant called “Honest Greens”

I really loved the sweet potato fries with their own sauce. Furthermore, I ordered the “Summer burrata” and the “cauliflower-tahini-harissa”, which was also very tasteful.
If you’re in the neighborhood, it’s a bit outside the city near the airport, you should definitely give this restaurant a try. The products are ethically sourced, organic whenever possible, unprocessed, and free of artificial preservatives, additives, or refined sugars.
